Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

When Disney bought Lucas Films for over $4 billion, you knew they had plans. The Force Awakens certainly didn’t disappoint, and left fans wanting more. Disney’s response? We got you. A couple of days ago, a new trailer of the eagerly anticipated Star Wars Rogue One was released, revealing a little bit more about the storyline, and what we can expect.

When and Where does Rogue One take place?

If you’re not already up to speed on the new “Star Wars Story” movie, Rogue One takes place somewhere after Episode 3, and before Episode 4 – A New Hope. To keep it simple: this movie is about the growing rebellion against Vader and the Empire, focused specifically on the construction of the Death Star. If you’re familiar with A New Hope, you’ll fondly remember Luke Skywalker sending a perfectly constructed shot that blew the whole thing up. A shameful and embarrassing design flaw, if you ask Darth Vader.

Rogue One aims to fill in the gaps, and tell us the story about how the Rebels stole the Death Star blueprint, with visions of destroying it.


You may be thinking, what’s the point? We already know they find the blueprint, and the Death Star is obliterated. I don’t really care how it happened, I already know the ending right? Wrong. Shut up.

For one, Disney wants more of your money. And let’s be real, you’re happily going to give it to them. More importantly, who cares why they’re making this movie? Star Wars fans are already used to getting movies out of order. Episodes 4, 5 and 6 came before Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Sure, the entirety of the “new” trilogy was a godawful mess, but at least we had Darth Maul. Darth Maul was the best. Did you know there was almost a Darth Maul video game? RIP Darth Maul Video Game. We wish we had known you better.

Anyways, the new trailer for Rogue One is pretty much amazing. Ben Mendelohn playing an Imperial villain? Sounds good to me. Felicity Jones playing Jyn Erso, the badass rebel who looks to be a little rough on the edges? Yeah I’m in. Wait, is Rey going to end up being a descendant of Jyn Erso? Is Luke actually Rey’s daughter? These are the important questions in life that we should all be asking.

Basically, it’s time to just enjoy the fact that Disney owns Star Wars, and promises to give us all a lot more of what they know we already want. Did I mention that Forest Whitaker is in this movie? Let’s all take a moment to appreciate what will undoubtedly become the first stand-alone Star Wars film of many.
