Here we have empirical evidence that we’ve barely scratched the surface of wearables as a category. Forget about smart watches, glucose monitoring devices, and virtual reality headsets. Sony seems to think you need a wearable air conditioner.
This device inserts into the back of a custom undershirt, and promises to deliver a cooling experience that will actually make a device. Does it seem unnecessary? Probably. But if you live in the part of the country where its frankly just too hot all the time (looking at you Arizona) this might just intrigue you. There’s also the notion that quite a few people work outside.
If you’re doing construction, landscaping or something else that’s labor intensive, maybe you’d argue Sony is on to something here.
PRICE
The actual REON Pocket device will set you back about $120. The shirts you insert the Reon into are more affordable at around $20 a piece.
BATTERY LIFE
A full charge will get you about 2-4 hours of cooling. Just what you needed, another device to remember to charge before you leave the house. Definitely doesn't seem like the battery life is good enough to justify the price. But that's never stopped you before, right?
SHOP OR FLOP?
We’re leaning towards flop, but stranger things have found a target market.
