Right or wrong, fossil fuels are always getting bad press. Apparently, Planet Earth only has a finite amount of these non-renewable resources. For that reason, we’re starting to see more and more companies focus on sustainability. Okay, maybe not for Volkswagen specifically, but a lot of companies are introducing electric vehicles.
Elon just unveiled his amusing Cybertruck, while Porsche showed off the Taycan (which was just hammered for apparently producing a disappointing 200 mile range on a single charge). The point is, everyone and their mom is rushing to make an electric vehicle, even though gasoline is certainly not going anywhere anytime soon. Let’s definitely not talk about how electric vehicles actually get their energy (coal-burning power plants, anyone?) because, science. Regardless, I’d venture to say electric vehicles are certainly better for the environment though, right? Probably.
Anyways, now that I’m completely off track.. let’s talk about the best kind of electric vehicles — the kind with 2 wheels and no roof separating your body from mother nature. Affordable electric motorcycles, specifically. Now that’s an idea I can get behind.

WHO IS THIS BIKE FOR?
So, who exactly is this bike for? The Sur-Ron X is aimed at beginner to intermediate riders, but also for people who simply want an electric dirt bike. If you’re looking for a quick and fun way to experience trail riding, this little guy might just be the hidden gem you’ve been looking for.
WHAT DO WE LIKE ABOUT THE SUR-RON X?
For starters, it’s a pretty slick electric dirt bike, which is an achievement in itself. It handles well, and the 50 mile range is actually pretty solid, especially when you consider that the battery is swappable. Wait, what? For an extra $1,200 (Yes, they’re expensive) you can buy an extra battery which might just make a ton of sense.
This electric dirt bike is perfect for trail riding and epic outdoor adventures. Even though it’s fairly small, it’s fast and can handle quite a bit of terrain including hill-climbing. The range is estimated at 40 miles, but that’ll net you a solid few hours of riding.
From a design standpoint, it’s near perfection. The Sur-Ron X Black Edition is a thing of beauty.
ANY ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT?
If you want to nitpick, some riders have commented that the stock brakes could be better. It also isn’t street legal right off the bat, you’ll need to add rear view mirrors and blinkers if you plan on cruising around your local streets.
More broadly speaking, there seems to be a market for a more powerful version of this bike. Even a jump from top end speed of 45mph to 65mph would go a long way. Oh, and some have said the seat could be more comfortable. A lot of riders said it took a few hours for their butts to adjust to the seat, but wasn’t a problem in the long run.
